When you know as much as we do, nothing matters. Things just repeat. Day and night, summer and winter. The world is empty and aimless. Everything circles around. Whatever starts up must pass away, whatever is born must die. It all cancels out, good or bad, beautiful or ugly.

About This Quote

"When you know as much as we do, nothing matters. Things just repeat. Day and night, summer and winter. The world is empty and aimless.

Everything circles around. Whatever starts up must pass away, whatever is born must die. It all cancels out, good or bad, beautiful or ugly" - Shusaku Endo. The quote says that we don’t matter, that everything repeats day and night and that all things must end.

He doesn’t like the world (and he probably hates it). Life is meaningless and he doesn’t like how it goes. This is a very depressing outlook on life and it isn’t something we should take lightly because we can’t really change our lives by thinking like this.

We can only change by doing things (like getting up and going to work). And even if we were hard-hearted, we have to enjoy what we have while we have it because it will soon be gone from us for good.
